“I want to be of an assistance to women of color when deciding to get an abortion and how to make them feel safe.”
Alanis learned that some people prefer to write their thoughts instead of appearing physically to talk about their abortion or stories. She designed her project around analyzing letters to the editor from Columbus, Ohio area through a Black, feminist thought and reproductive justice lens. The project expanded into opinion editorials, letters to the editor and other stories published in the Columbus Dispatch from June 2022 (when Roe v. Wade was overturned) to February 1, 2023.
